OUR ORGANIZATION

The Colville Washington based Frank Starr American Legion Post #47 Family consists of four main Programs: The Post, Legion Riders, Sons of the American Legion, and Post Auxiliary. Each of these programs has information at this site to inform the public and our membership of activities, projects and initiatives happening in our community.

OUR HISTORY

The American Legion was founded March 15-17, 1919, by members of the American Expeditionary Forces still stationed in Europe awaiting passage home from World War I. Their experiences in what was called the “war to end all wars” would shape an enduring agenda for what became the nation’s largest organization of veterans.

This Post is dedicated to Colville resident Frank Starr, a medic in WW1, who was killed in action 12 days prior to Armistice Day, and is buried in France. Established in 1928, the Post continues to serve the surrounding community. The current location of Post 47 was donated by the Diffenbacher family on 24 June 1934. The building was erected in 1934 and is on the City of Colville Local Registry.

OUR MISSION

The American Legion is the nation’s largest veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members, veterans and their families.

Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion

For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our association in all wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfullness.
